Over the past couple of weeks we've had several small parties for visiting job candidates. Unfortunately some senior faculty member, who shall remain nameless, brought a particularly bad blended whisky for the floating bar. I remedied the whisky drinkers' dilemma tonight by bringing a twelve-year-old expression of the newish "The Speyside", which I hope to review at a later date. However, the situation got me thinking about what one should do with a particularly disastrous whisky when bar supplies might be a bit low. Enter the "Highland Sling"! Hopefully a bit of rooting around the kitchen should be able to scare up the following ingredients.
Highland Sling
Ingredients:
- 1 tsp superfine Sugar
- 2 tsp Water
- 1 oz Lemon juice
- 2 oz Scotch
- 1 twist of Lemon peel
In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the sugar, water, lemon juice, and Scotch. Shake well. Strain into a highball glass. Garnish with the lemon twist.
