greetings. just ran across yer site while killing time on the web, decided to google my name for the hell of it. imagine my surprise when i saw a listing for a whiskey blog! huzzah! i agree with your assessments of single malts under the "Taking Stock" heading, as they are all excellent offerings. I tend to be a beer sage, but I also have a fondness for whisk(e)y as well. my 'booze rack' was hand made by a former teacher, now long dead. it holds 20 bottles; top row is single malts, racked from youngest to oldest. bottom row is bourbon racked the same way. i note the omittance, incidentally, of any vintage from the MACALLAN distillery. if you aren't aware of it, they produce a most excellent cask strength(at 58.6%) that is simply fabulous on a cold winter's night(though i think i prefer the A'bunadh from Abelour). their 18 yo is matured in sherry casks fresh from Jerez, and is quite possibly the most phenomenal bottle i've ever de-corked, although it's a bit pricey.
btw, love the quotes, esp. the W.C. Fields one at the top o' the page. thought i was the only one that knew that one! surprisingly, i don't see the other classic WCF quote: "Some unscrupulous scalawag has stolen the cork from my lunch!" love the whiskey dissertations, i'll add this to my favorites.
